FAQ
Do I need to attend the audition workshop prior to auditions?
No, you do not have to attend, but we encourage all students to attend the workshop. You do not have to attend the workshop to be able to audition for the musical. The audition workshop is simply a way for you to get some extra help and insights with the material prior to the actual audition.
Do I need to attend all 3 days of auditions?
Yes, plan to attend all 3 days. The first day of auditions will be vocal and acting auditions. The second day is dancing auditions. The third day is callbacks. You only need to attend callbacks if you receive an email that states you have been called back.
If I don't receive a callback, does that mean I am not cast in the show?
No, not at all! A callback simply means we need to see more of what you can offer for a role or how you might play a roll alongside another actor. We do not always need to see every actor again after the general auditions. You may still be cast in any role (lead, supporting, or ensemble) if you do not receive a callback.
What should I expect for the vocal and acting auditions?
The first day of auditions is vocal and acting auditions. You can rehearse the material for general auditions prior to the audition. You will enter the auditions space, introduce yourself, and perform your music selection and monologue selection for the directors. The directors may ask you some questions, have you read or sing something else, or send you on your way. No matter what, put forth your best effort and don't be afraid to show us what you can do!
I'm not really a dancer, but I still want to be in the show. Can I still audition?
Absolutely! You should still plan to attend dance auditions. Sometimes specific roles need actors who can do very specific things, and we need to see these things from all of our actors who are auditioning. Give it your best shot and keep on smiling!
How will I know if I am cast in the show?
The Directors will share the cast and crew lists on Twitter as well as post a physical copy of the cast list on the bulletin board outside of room 812 in the PAC. Follow LHS Theatre on X at @LHS__Thespians or Instagram @bluejaytheatre
How long are rehearsals?
Rehearsals typically run from 3:30pm-5:30pm up until the week before and week of the performances. Wednesday rehearsals are 2:30pm-5:30pm when there is an Early Release schedule. Those rehearsals closer to the performances will go later. However, always check the Digital Callboard and/or the Full Rehearsal Schedule for more information.
Do I have to buy my own costume?
No, we will provide your costume. However, we strongly encourage actors to make a costume donation if they are able to help us provide high quality costumes for our students.
I play a sport or participate in an activity that conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. Can I still participate?
We want you to be involved with LHS Theatre! While it's vital that actors are available to attend every rehearsal, it's likely that we can work something out with your schedule to involve you on the backstage side of the show. Contact either Mrs. Gehrlein or Mr. Turpin and let's chat about your unique situation!
